Ukraine’s Defense Minister Alleges Russia Nuked Ukraine In recent days a few incidents suggested that the world is increasingly going cuckoo, with a minister of the government in Kiev once again right at the forefront. Kiev’s government is by now known for its tall tales and sometimes bizarre ideas (such as Arseny Yatsenyuk’s recent proposal to build a wall between Ukraine and Russia, just to be safe), but defense minister Valery Geteley is evidently in a class of his own (link to article in German press). As the head of the Duma’s foreign affairs committee, Alexey Pushkov remarked in a brief and to the point summary:
‘It appears Ukraine’s defense minister has taken leave of his senses.’
The Russian defense ministry issued a brief press statement accusing Getely of ‘paranoia’. Even supporters of the government in Kiev felt they had to chime in with the odd critical remark. Getely had announced in an interview that Russia had recently nuked the Lugansk airport with 3 kiloton missiles of the 2S4 Tjulpan make.
