To Prevent Rebellion, Spain Docks Cruise Ship Housing 16,000 Riot Police In Barcelona Port

Efforts by Madrid to stop a Catalonia independence vote, currently slated for October 1st, seem to be growing more hostile by the day. Earlier this week Spanish police seized control of Catalonia’s finances, seeking to ensure that separatist politicians could not spend further public funds on the referendum, and conducted raids across Catalonia to confiscate ballots and campaign materials from printing shops and delivery companies.
Now, as the New York Times notes this morning, Spanish police have detained 14 people during operations conducted yesterday which included the secretary general of economic affairs, Josep Maria Jov.
The Spanish police detained more than a dozen people in the region of Catalonia on Wednesday, drastically escalating tensions between the national government and Catalan separatists. The episode occurred less than two weeks before a highly contentious referendum on independence that the government in Madrid has vowed to block. The police raided the offices of the Catalan regional government early Wednesday and arrested at least 14 people, including Josep Maria Jov, secretary general of economic affairs. The arrests were not expected, but hundreds of mayors and other officials in Catalonia had been warned that they would be indicted if they helped organize a referendum in violation of Spanish law.
Hundreds of supporters of Catalan independence immediately took to the streets of Barcelona to protest the arrests. Jordi Sanchez, the leader of one of the region’s biggest separatist associations, used Twitter to urge Catalans to ‘resist peacefully,’ but also to ‘come out and defend our institutions.’
According to Reuters, the increasingly hostile crackdown by the Spanish police has led Catalan leaders to acknowledge for the first time today that plans to hold a referendum on independence are now in doubt following the arrest of senior regional officials and the seizure of campaign material by national police.

The U.S. President’s Role in a Time of Devastating Disasters

Today’s Houston Chronicle carries a photo and report of ‘thousands of piles of Hurricane Harvey wreckage on Houston curbs’ still waiting for removal. The devastating flooding from Hurricane Harvey in late August has impacted low income families the hardest with another article in the paper reporting that residents of a public housing complex in Houston ‘have been asked to pay rent for flooded units deemed uninhabitable even as the mayor has condemned private landlords for similar practices.’
In the Florida Keys, where major devastation occurred when Hurricane Irma hit the area on September 10 as a Category 4 hurricane, the schools remain closed and will begin to reopen on a staggered basis beginning Monday. The Miami Herald’s digital edition today shows a photo of the devastation unleashed on Big Pine Key by Hurricane Irma, which made landfall at Cudjoe Key, approximately 20 miles north of Key West. Monroe County, home to the Keys, estimates that 20 percent or more of the homes in the Keys were badly damaged or destroyed.
As millions of impacted Americans attempted to assist others and rebuild from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, another monster Hurricane hit Puerto Rico yesterday, Hurricane Maria, leaving it darkened and without any municipal electric power whatsoever. The U. S. Territory was still attempting to recover from damage caused by Hurricane Irma, which had brushed the northern side of the island two weeks earlier, when Hurricane Maria hit as a Category 4 hurricane yesterday, the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Puerto Rico since 1932. The extent of the devastation there is still uncertain. The San Juan Daily Star newspaper’s website shows that it was last updated two days ago, on September 19. Last evening, weather officials reported that ‘catastrophic’ flooding was occurring in parts of Puerto Rico.

The Future Will Be Decentralized

I heartily accept the motto, ‘That government is best which governs least’; and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which also I believe – ‘That government is best which governs not at all’; and when men are prepared for it, that will be the kind of government which they will have.
– Henry David Thoreau, Civil Disobedience
Some people live their existence in a great state of dread, convinced a totalitarian, centralized world government of sorts is in our future. Not only do I not think this is going to happen, but I predict the exact opposite will occur. I believe the world has already hit ‘peak centralization’ and decentralization will be the defining trend of human existence on this planet going forward.
Naturally, this is just one man’s opinion, but I strongly believe it and will make my case in this piece. When I look around and think about the major trends of our time, they all point in the direction of decentralization, something which invariably scares the living daylights out of authoritarians worldwide.
Irrespective of what you think of Donald Trump, the fact he was elected proves the power of decentralization in the modern communications and media realm. As was well documented throughout the campaign, the mainstream media came out in clownish and historically lopsided fashion in favor of his opponent Hillary Clinton. We all remember seeing headlines like the one below and then reading stuff like the following.

JIM CARREY ALLEGEDLY SAYS APPLE’S FACE ID WILL LEAD TO ‘NEW WORLD ORDER’

Jim Carrey allegedly isn’t a big fan of Apple’s new Face ID program. The controversial technology has been the source of much discomfort for those want basic rights after Apple revealed just what it can do.
Actor Jim Carrey even warned Apple that he will never use their products again and he isn’t alone. According to Your News Wire, Carrey said that Apple’s new iPhone Face ID technology will be used by the global elite to ‘enslave humanity’ and usher in a totalitarian New World Order.
*Please note, that these allegations made my Your News Wire could not be verified.*
The Face ID technology could, however, be used by police to violate rights by unlocking a person’s phone without their consent. But there’s another more sinister use for the Apple’s Face ID: easy mass spying.
But FaceID should create fear about another form of government surveillance too. And this one is a rights violation of every person on earth: mass scans to identify individuals based on face profiles. Law enforcement is rapidly increasing their use of facial recognition; one in two American adults are already enrolled in a law enforcement facial recognition network, and at least one in four police departments has the capability to run face recognition searches. This could make Apple the target for a new mass surveillance order. – SHTFPlan
Jim Carrey allegedly said at the Toronto Film Festival, ‘If George Orwell wrote 1984 today, it would have been about tech companies ruling over a totalitarian state instead of communists, the stores would be called ‘town squares’ and the phones that you are forced to buy would read your face.’ Carrey was promoting the Netflix documentary Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond.

Prosecutors Unveil Full Details Of Anthony Weiner’s Pedophilia

Earlier today we reported that as part of the government’s sentencing memorandum (published at the bottom), federal prosecutors asked that disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner, and the man Hillary Clinton has quietly added to what has become a virtually infinite list of reasons why she lost the presidential election, be sentenced to about two years in prison for engaging in sexting with an underage, 15-year-old girl. Prosecutors filed paper in Manhattan Federal Court on Wednesday in advance of Weiner’s sentencing. In the document, prosecutors asked that the judge use the sentencing as an opportunity to send a message to other perverted politicians:
The Government respectfully submits this memorandum in connection with the sentencing of Anthony Weiner, which is scheduled for September 25, 2017, following his guilty plea to transferring obscene material to a minor. Although the defendant’s self-destructive path from United States Congressman to felon is indisputably sad, his crime is serious and his demonstrated need for deterrence is real. The non-custodial sentence that Weiner proposes is simply inadequate; his crime deserves time in prison. For the reasons set forth below, the Government respectfully requests that Court sentence Weiner to a term of imprisonment within the range of 21 to 27 months.
Weiner’s sentencing will take place almost exactly a year after the New York Post published a story about him sexting with another woman who wasn’t his wife. Weiner said he would plead guilty in May after prosecutors brought charges following revelations that he also sexted with the 15-year-old, whom he met over Twitter. Both the girl and her father told the Daily Mail that Weiner knew she was underaged when they were corresponding.

Heh Crazies: You Are NOT Anonymous On The Internet

I was wondering when law enforcement was going to start doing its damn job.
A legal storm is building after a D. C. judge ordered a web hosting company to give the government a broad swath of data about individuals connected to an anti-Trump website despite arguments that doing so would impinge on their First Amendment rights and stifle online political discourse.
At a hearing Thursday morning in D. C. Superior Court, Chief Judge Robert E. Morin insisted he would put restrictions on how the government reviews the material in order to protect those rights. The government must disclose to the court who will search the material and what process they will use. They must also develop a plan to minimize the search of material unrelated to criminal activity.
You have a First Amendment right to speak.
You do not have a First Amendment right to riot, engage in vandalism or otherwise conduct criminal activity and coordinating, bragging, or announcing intent to do so on the Internet is direct and admissible evidence of intent and thus not only can be used to evidence guilt in an instant case it can also be used to support a charge of conspiracy, mob action, racketeering or similar crimes which involve the coordination of actions by multiple people.

Never Forget: The US Government Has A Known History Of Using False Flags

When it comes to 9/11, there are two groups of people: those who don’t know exactly what happened, and those who orchestrated it.
***
Nearly everyone on earth belongs in the former category, but a lot of folks like to pretend they have a rock solid understanding of the events which transpired on that fateful day in 2001. Scoffing mainstream adherents like to pretend they’re confident that the official narrative is accurate, but they aren’t. A lot of hardcore conspiracy analysts like to pretend they know the real story, but they don’t. There’s simply not enough publicly available information for anyone to be certain exactly how things went down that day; all we can know for sure is that (A) the official story is riddled with plot holes, and (B) the American power establishment has an extensive and well-documented history of using false flags and propaganda to manipulate the public into supporting evil acts of military interventionism.

Ban On Kaspersky Software Exposes The Hypocrisy Of US’ Internet Agenda

On September 18, the US Senate voted to ban the use of products from the Moscow-based cyber security firm Kaspersky Lab by the federal government, citing national security risk. The vote was included as an amendment to an annual defense policy spending bill approved by the Senate on the same day. The measure pushed forward by New Hampshire Democrat Jeanne Shaheen has strong support in the House of Representatives, which also must vote on a defense spending bill. The legislation bars the use of Kaspersky Lab software in government civilian and military agencies.
***
On September 13, a binding directive issued by Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke, ordered federal agencies to remove Kaspersky Lab products from government computers over concerns the Russia-based cybersecurity software company might be vulnerable to Russian government influence. All federal departments and agencies were given 30 days to identify any Kaspersky products in use on their networks. The departments have another 60 days to begin removal of the software. The statement says, The department is concerned about the ties between certain Kaspersky officials and Russian intelligence and other government agencies, and requirements under Russian law that allow Russian intelligence agencies to request or compel assistance from Kaspersky and to intercept communications transiting Russian networks. The Russian law does not mention American networks, nevertheless it is used as a pretext to explain the concern.
Similar bans against US government use of Kaspersky products have been suggested before. In 2015, Bloomberg News reported that the company has close ties to Russian spies.

HODLing Bitcoin From One Natural Disaster To The Next

Those who follow me on Facebook know that I reported live this week from Hurricane Max in Acapulco, which luckily just missed our area, as opposed to four years ago today where a tropical storm wiped out some local towns and our anarchist rescue team helped in the recovery.
I then arrived yesterday in Mexico City just in time to live stream the 7.1 earthquake that hit the area. (*Note: I spent the evening with Jose Rodriguez of Bitso.com who had been helping the recovery all day and has started a fundraiser to help people in Mexico City HERE.)
Damage at the airport wasn’t bad but most flights were cancelled and I ended up scouring the airport like a vagrant for hours looking for my bag and then searching the entire city for the one remaining hotel room… which the damned price gougers had at $2,000 US for the night… albeit it was the Presidential Suite at the St. Regis. Thank you, by the way, price gougers.
As I write now I am finally on my connecting flight through to Houston, then Denver, then Aspen for the Nexus conference.

Sharyl Attkisson Rages “Looks Like Obama Spied On Trump, Just Like He Did To Me”

Many in the media are diving deeply into minutiae in order to discredit any notion that President Trump might have been onto something in March when he fired off a series of tweets claiming President Obama had ‘tapped’ ‘wires’ in Trump Tower just before the election.
According to media reports this week, the FBI did indeed ‘wiretap’ the former head of Trump’s campaign, Paul Manafort, both before and after Trump was elected.
If Trump officials – or Trump himself – communicated with Manafort during the wiretaps, they would have been recorded, too.
But we’re missing the bigger story.

GERMAN ELECTION MEDDLING! BUT IT ISN’T RUSSIA THIS TIME…

The Germans are making accusations of ‘meddling’ in their election that is expected to hand Chancellor Angela Merkel a fourth term. But researchers say that this time, Russia isn’t the one doing the ‘meddling.’
Researchers claim that there is evidence that ‘right-wing groups in the United States’ are behind the materials popping up on YouTube, messaging board sites like 4chan and Reddit, and texting service Gab.ai.
‘So far we have not been able to track down any specific Russian activity,’ said Simon Hegelich, a professor of political science data at the Technical University of Munich who has advised the German government about the threat of hacking and false information. Yet there is still an online dashboard which monitors ‘Russian propaganda’ about the German election.
Hegelich also said that proving connections among sympathizers is extremely difficult and may never be conclusive. ‘A lot of the stuff we are seeing in Germany can be linked to, or is at least inspired by, the ‘alt-right’ movement in the U. S.,’ Hegelich said, referring to the very loosely defined group.
