NATO vs. ISIS?

NATO has struck in Iraq. Or, more precisely, two French Rafale warplanes bombed a storage depot in northern Iraq believed to be used by ISIS. Washington cheered the French attack as the first wave of NATO military operations against the new enemy du jour, ISIS or the Islamic State. French president Francois Hollande, whose abysmal popularity ratings are now lower than Robespierre’s, butcher of the French Revolution, was elated by his show of machismo even if French voters were not. What the French were really doing, of course, was show-casing their new Rafale fighter. There’s nothing like bombing Arabs to sell military hardware, as Israel has long shown. Paris has been desperately trying to sell the Rafale, which is a very capable aircraft, to the Gulf Emirates, Saudi Arabia and India. Delhi signed an order for 126 Rafales in 2012 but has yet to implement it. India knows France is desperate to sell Rafales and has been torturing the French with endless bureaucratic and contract delays while it tries to haggle down the price and improve co-production terms. Two Rafales hardly mean full-scale NATO intervention in Iraq. Washington has been pressing NATO for decades to act as its gendarme in the Mideast. However, Europeans have been very reluctant to wade into the swamp of Mideast affairs or act as Washington’s native troops the way the Indian Army served the military needs of the British Empire. As the late Bavarian leader Franz Josef Strauss pithily put it, ‘we refuse to be foot soldiers for the American atomic knights.’

Stupid Senate: Lawmakers put $10 million bounty on head of ISIS YouTube actor

21st Century Wire says…
This is getting silly now…
For US lawmakers, summer holiday is never enough. Before disappearing for an extended seven-week vacation, the US Senate unanimously passed some manly ‘WANTED’ legislation, which earmarks $10 million for, ‘any information leading to the capture of individuals involved in the online ‘beheadings’ of American James Foley and Israeli-American Steven Sotloff.
The obvious logic of this one must have escaped the brain trust in Washington. The only people actually able to supply such information are the ones who are involved in the ISIS(L) operation. A $10 million deposit into the ISIS general fund?
Maybe it’s a way of funneling $10 million to someone inside ISIS, presumably because they need, or are owed that cash, but to try and sell it to the American people as a bounty is a child-like proposition. One thing is certain: you will never hear about whether that reward is ever collected or not – that payment will be ‘classified’, but you can be sure it ended up in an important pocket.

Take Abdel Bary aka ‘Jihadi John’ (photo, above), for example. He starred in at least two ISIS propaganda videos released on YouTube featuring alleged ‘beheadings’. Is Washington going after the voice of Jihadi John, or the image in the video, because as we’ve pointed out already on 21WIRE, they are not necessarily the same thing. It might also be painful to point out here that none of the so-called ‘beheading’ videos actually show anyone getting beheaded. So then, you cannot rightly call them ‘beheadings’, unless you are fudging it. Is that too complicated for the Senate ‘intelligence’ committee?

At Least Scottish Have the Balls to Face Up to the Future

Pandora’s Box was not entirely closed and will stay half-open.
The future can be a scary thing. Ditto with change, just ask The Royal Family. Despite the excitement and the bells of freedom ringing loud, in the end, Scottish voters opted for, ‘No: it’s not worth the risk.’ Had it been a ‘YES’ vote, these columns would be filled with stacks of other writings, but it happened to be a ‘NO’ vote which brings us to a different conversation. The independence and autonomy movement is a global wave and it’s gaining size and speed. The Scottish vote was a demonstration to London, and to the rest of the world. Watch out, as there will be more such referendums sprouting up in Europe and further afield.

A Close Run Thing
Glasgow, by far Scotland’s biggest city, voted ‘Yes’ to independence by a large majority, including 71% of under-20′s who voted Yes.
For UK premier David Cameron and especially for English Labour Party politicians who depend on their ‘Scottish safe seats’ to maintain the party’s physical shape – it was a close run thing.
Talk about ‘political road maps’ which do not exist for Scotland but supposedly exist for solving puzzles like the Israel-Palestine conflict. Their are hidden roles in these road maps, which in Scotland’s case includes ‘more devolution’ is their proven ability to do nothing, waste time, and delay the future – but they can never avoid it.

Israel’s Cue: Syrian ‘Rebels’ Occupy Golan Heights, Seize UN Weapons and Vehicles

Perfect timing. We were waiting for the stage director to whistle-in Israel somewhere into this ISIS Crisis and to help the US and Britain with their Syrian regime change project. Here is the perfect pretext…
In 1981, after a long-running, brutal attempted Israeli land grab of Syria’s Golan region, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 497, which called the State of Israel to withdrawal from its de facto annexation of the Golan Heights. A UN Peacekeeping Force was put in place there to maintain that key buffer zone. Ever since then, Syria and Israel have observed their peace agreement, but Israel still considers this part of Syria to be part of ‘Greater Israel’ and would certainly take advantage should the area ever become compromised.

Struggling to Gauge ISIS Threat, Even as U.S. Prepares to Act

The violent ambitions of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria have been condemned across the world: in Europe and the Middle East, by Sunni nations and Shiite ones, and by sworn enemies like Israel and Iran. Pope Francis joined the call for ISIS to be stopped.
But as President Obama prepares to send the United States on what could be a years-long military campaign against the militant group, American intelligence agencies have concluded that it poses no immediate threat to the United States. Some officials and terrorism experts believe that the actual danger posed by ISIS has been distorted in hours of television punditry and alarmist statements by politicians, and that there has been little substantive public debate about the unintended consequences of expanding American military action in the Middle East.
Daniel Benjamin, who served as the State Department’s top counter-terrorism adviser during Mr. Obama’s first term, said the public discussion about the ISIS threat has been a “farce,” with “members of the cabinet and top military officers all over the place describing the threat in lurid terms that are not justified.”
“It’s hard to imagine a better indication of the ability of elected officials and TV talking heads to spin the public into a panic, with claims that the nation is honeycombed with sleeper cells, that operatives are streaming across the border into Texas or that the group will soon be spraying Ebola virus on mass transit systems — all on the basis of no corroborated information,” said Mr. Benjamin, who is now a scholar at Dartmouth College.

9/11 After 13 years Paul Craig Roberts

The tragedy of September 11, 2001, goes far beyond the deaths of those who died in the towers and the deaths of firefighters and first responders who succumbed to illnesses caused by inhalation of toxic dust. For thirteen years a new generation of Americans has been born into the 9/11 myth that has been used to create the American warfare/police state.
The corrupt Bush and Obama regimes used 9/11 to kill, maim, dispossess and displace millions of Muslims in seven countries, none of whom had anything whatsoever to do with 9/11.
A generation of Americans has been born into distain and distrust of Muslims.
A generation of Americans has been born into a police state in which privacy and constitutional protections no longer exist.
A generation of Americans has been born into continuous warfare while needs of citizens go unmet.
A generation of Americans has been born into a society in which truth is replaced with the endless repetition of falsehoods.
According to the official story, on September 11, 2001, the vaunted National Security State of the World’s Only Superpower was defeated by a few young Saudi Arabians armed only with box cutters. The American National Security State proved to be totally helpless and was dealt the greatest humiliation ever inflicted on any country claiming to be a power.
That day no aspect of the National Security State worked. Everything failed.
The US Air Force for the first time in its history could not get intercepter jet fighters into the air.
The National Security Council failed.
All sixteen US intelligence agencies failed as did those of America’s NATO and Israeli allies.

ISIS HYPE: False Threats, Staged Executions, While Israel ‘Expands’

As the black-clad terror troupe ISIS rages on, its ‘greater’ role concerning the policy planning of those in Washington, Tel Aviv and Britain is rapidly being revealed. This is the world in hyper-drive-destruction, and the propaganda machine is in full swing while approaching the 13th anniversary of 9/11.
It can no longer be denied that the chaos caused by ISIS has not also benefited the transnational corporate interests intertwined within the US-NATO-Israeli-GCC alliance. Whether its through the recent beheading videos that appear to be staged, the social media frenzy surrounding the #ISIS hashtag revolution, or Israel’s largest land grab in 30 years, the timing of the ISIS phenomenon has to be looked at more closely.
The Sunni extremists of the Islamic State, in the eyes of the West, seem to have been assigned a rather large part in shaping the future landscape of the Middle East.
The sudden rise of ISIS militants was not by accident, just as it is was no accident that their apparent death march was timed with the pressurized resignation of former Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki. No matter how you slice it, ISIS has enabled Western policy planners to pursue a more direct route to intervene and destabilize Iraq and possibly Syria.

Pope Francis And Shimon Peres Discuss The Establishment Of A ‘United Nations Of Religions’

Last Thursday, Pope Francis and former Israeli President Shimon Peres met for an extended 45 minute private conversation. The focus of this discussion was a proposal by Peres to establish a ‘United Nations of Religions’. It was the third meeting between the two men in a little more than four months. As you will see below, Pope Francis showed ‘his interest, attention, and encouragement’ as Peres explained his proposal. Of course Pope Francis didn’t commit to anything, and we probably will not see a ‘United Nations of Religions’ any time soon, but every idea has to start somewhere. If Pope Francis does ultimately decide to actively push for such a thing, could we eventually see a single global body that claims to represent all of the religions of the world?
It is very unusual for a Pope to meet with any world leader three times in just over four months. But it is this latest meeting between Pope Francis and Shimon Peres that was the most noteworthy by far. The following is how Fox Newsreported on it…
Retired Israeli President Shimon Peres has proposed a new global peace initiative to Pope Francis: A ‘United Nations of Religions,’ given that most wars today have religious, not nationalistic, undercurrents.
The Vatican said Peres pitched the initiative during a 45-minute audience Thursday in the Apostolic Palace. The two men last met when Francis invited the then-Israeli president and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to pray for peace together in the Vatican gardens on June 8.
So exactly why does Peres want a ‘United Nations of Religions’?
Well, according to the Jerusalem Post it is because he believes that such a body would have the best chance of preventing war and violence in the world…
In an interview with the Catholic Magazine Famiglia Cristiana, Peres called on Francis to leverage his respect to create an interfaith organization to curb religious violence.
‘What we need is an organization of United Religions… as the best way to combat terrorists who kill in the name of faith,’ Peres said. ‘What we need is an unquestionable moral authority who says out loud, ‘No, God does not want this and does not allow it.”

OBAMA’S LONG ISIS WAR: IT WILL TAKE YEARS AND KILL THOUSANDS

The New York Times, long the preferred conduit for war propaganda, has laid out Obama’s plan to defeat ISIS, aka the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. The administration warns the effort will take years to complete and continue after Obama has left office. The first phase a sustained air campaign will, the Times claims, roll back ISIS gains in northern and western Iraq. Details on how this will work minus ground troops is not explained.
Next, the United States will shuffle around the government in Iraq to make it ‘more inclusive.’ This is total blue sky.
Following the U. S. invasion and the toppling and eventual execution of strongman and former CIA operative Saddam Hussein, Iraq predictably descended into sectarian violence. This was planned. ‘What is unfolding is a process of ‘constructive chaos,’ engineered by the West,’ writes Julie Lvesque. ‘The destabilization of Iraq and its fragmentation has been planned long ago and is part of the ‘Anglo-American-Israeli ‘military road map’ in the Middle East,’ an effort introduced during the Bush administration and coined the ‘New Middle East’ by then U. S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
The final element of Obama’s supposed plan to deal with ISIS calls for a de facto invasion of Syria. The Pentagon estimates this part of the plan will take at least 36 months.

Ukraine, Separatists Agree On Cease-Fire; EU May Suspend Sanctions

UPDATE: So far no good…*HEAVY ARTILLERY BLASTS HEARD IN UKRAINE’S MARIUPOL: RIA
While we had grown weary of trashed truces and snapped cease-fires in Israel, it appears, according to Interfax, that Ukraine and the pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine (having gained notably over the army in recent days) have agreed a cease-fire:
*UKRAINE, SEPARATISTS AGREE ON CEASE-FIRE FROM 6PM TODAY: IFX *POROSHENKO: PRELIM. PROTOCOL TO CEASE-FIRE SIGNED IN MINSK: BBC Great news, especially for Merkel (and Hollande) who has already come out and noted that the cease-fire means EU could suspend sanctions (saving face and avoiding some further escalation). The question is – how much of Putin’s 7-point-peace-plan will Ukraine acquiesce to? If any?

Warning to the World: Washington and its NATO & EU Vassals are Insane – Paul Craig Roberts

Herbert E. Meyer, a nutcase who was a special assistant to the CIA director for a period during the Reagan administration, has penned an article calling for Russian President Putin’s assassination. If we have ‘ to get him out of the Kremlin feet-first with a bullet hole in the back of his head, that would be okay with us.’ As the crazed Meyer illiustrates, the insanity that Washington has released upon the world knows no restraint. Jose Manual Barroso, installed as Washington’s puppet as European Commission President, misrepresented his recent confidential telephone conversation with Russia’s President Putin by telling the media that Putin issued a threat: ‘If I want to, I can take Kiev in two weeks.’
Clearly, Putin did not issue a threat. A threat would be inconsistent with Putin’s entire unprovocative approach to the strategic threat that Washington and its NATO puppets have brought to Russia in Ukraine. Russia’s permanent representative to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, said that if Barroso’s lie stands, Russia will make public the full recording of the conversation
Anyone familiar with the disparity between the Ukrainian and Russian militaries knows full well that it would take the Russian military 14 hours, not 14 days, to take all of Ukraine. Just remember what happened to the American and Israeli trained and equipped Georgian Army when Washington set its stupid Georgian puppets on South Ossetia. The American and Israeli trained and equipped Georgian army collapsed under Russian counterattack in 5 hours.
The lie that Washington’s puppet Barroso told was not worthy of a serious person. But where in Europe is there a serious person in power? Nowhere. The few serious people are all out of power. Consider the NATO Secretary General, Anders Rasmussen. He was a prime minister of Denmark who saw he could rise beyond Denmark by serving as Washington’s puppet. As prime minister he strongly supported Washington’s illegal invasion of Iraq, declaring that ‘we know that Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction.’ Of course, the fool didn’t know any such thing, and why would it matter if Iraq did have such weapons. Many countries have weapons of mass destruction.

Oil tanker with $100 million cargo goes missing off Texas coast

An oil tanker loaded with $100 million of disputed Iraqi Kurdish crude has disappeared of the coast of Texas in the latest development in a high stakes game of cat-and-mouse between Baghdad and the Kurds.
The AIS ship tracking system used by the U.S. Coast Guard and Reuters on Thursday showed no known position for the United Kalavrvta, which was carrying 1 million barrels of crude and 95 percent full when it went dark.
Several other tankers carrying disputed crude from Iran or Iraqi Kurdistan have unloaded cargoes after switching off their transponders, which makes their movements hard to track.
Days ago, the partially full Kamari tanker carrying Kurdish crude disappeared from satellite tracking north of Egypt's Sinai. It reappeared empty two days later near Israel.

We care enough about sports to review ‘official’ calls, but not to review ‘official’ calls of ‘lawful’ wars?!?

If Americans applied their passion and expertise in sports laws to current US/UK/Israel/UN wars, the resultant outrage would quickly cause ‘leaders” arrests for obvious unlawful Wars of Aggression.
We care, appropriately, that sports law be reviewed for proper calls on the field of play. Examples include tennis, baseball, and football. The illegality of all current wars are easily proved by reviewing war law on that field: military armed attack is unlawful unless in response to military attack from another nation’s government.
Americans continue an Emperor’s New Clothes-like awakening that the UN Charter and US Constitution limits have long been rejected by our ‘leaders” preference for dictatorial power. In this one area of law to limit governments from war-murders, it’s easy to explain and prove that US/UK/Israel armed attacks are OBVIOUS unlawful Wars of Aggression:
The UN Charter is an active treaty. It’s one and only area of legal authority is to prevent Wars of Aggression. Article Six of the US Constitution defines a treaty as US ‘supreme Law of the Land;’ meaning that US policy can never violate it. Therefore, the UN Charter is US ‘supreme Law’ to never use military armed attacks upon a nation in all cases except a narrow definition of ‘self-defense’: when another nation’s government attacks first. The UK and Israel ratified the UN Charter over 60 years ago in agreement to its limits of armed attacks.

ISIS AND AL-NUSRA MAY SLAUGHTER UN ‘PEACEKEEPERS’ IN GOLAN HEIGHTS

Dozens of UN soldiers surrounded by al-Nusra fighters infamous for beheading prisoners United Nations soldiers and al-Nusra fought it out on Saturday in the Golan Heights on the Syrian-Israeli occupied frontier.
On Wednesday al-Nusra, the former al-Qaeda affiliate that merged with ISIS earlier this year, overran the Quneitra crossing on the border and seized 44 Fijian UN soldiers.
Nusra also surrounded nearby Rwihana and Breiqa encampments where dozens of United Nations soldiers are trapped. The gun battle on Saturday erupted after al-Nusra surrounded the Rwihana camp and ordered the soldiers to surrender.

Rumors of war: Iranian general threatens surprise attack on Israel

August 2014 – MIDDLE EAST – Iranian military leaders on Tuesday vowed that Tehran would take military action against Israel in response to an alleged Israeli drone that was shot down in Iran on Sunday. Iran ‘will not give a diplomatic response,’ but will air its grievances with Israel on the ‘battlefield,’ senior Iranian generals were quoted as saying on Tuesday. ‘Our response to this aggression will not be diplomatic, we will retaliate in the battlefield, but will not necessarily announce it,’ Brigadier General Hossein Salami, the Lieutenant Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) was quoted as saying during a ceremony on Tuesday meant to commemorate ‘martyred’ Iranian military personnel. ‘The enemy will see and understand it,’ Salami was quoted as saying by the semi official Fars News Agency. ‘We never step back (in the confrontation) against the enemy. The Islamic Republic is powerful and is capable of confronting any power at any level and we never bring down the level of our goals.’ The threat of a surprise attack against Israel for its apparent attempts to send a spy drone into Tehran came just a day after Iranian government officials threatened to sue Israel in the International Criminal Court. Iranian military leaders announced over the weekend that they had used a surface-to-air missile to shoot down a drone that it claimed was an Israeli-made Hermes 450 unmanned plane. The drone was allegedly on its way to the Natanz nuclear enrichment site, which is believed to be part of Iran’s clandestine attempts to build a nuclear weapon. ‘This hostile action is a violation of Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,’ Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham was quoted as saying Monday by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Washington Piles Lie Upon Lie – Paul Craig Roberts

The latest Washington lie, this one coming from NATO, is that Russia has invaded Ukraine with 1,000 troops and self-propelled artillery.
How do we know that this is a lie? Is it because we have heard nothing but lies about Russia from NATO, from US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, from assistant secretary of state Victoria Nuland, from Obama and his entire regime of pathological liars, and from the British, German, and French governments along with the BBC and the entirety of the Western media?
This, of course, is a good reason for knowing that the latest Western propaganda is a lie. Those who are pathological liars don’t suddenly start telling the truth.
But there are even better reasons for understanding that Russia has not invaded Ukraine with 1,000 troops.
One reason is that Putin has invested heavily in diplomacy backed by unprovocative behavior. He would not risk his bet on diplomacy by sending in troops too few in number to have a decisive effect on the outcome.
Another reason is that if Putin decides he has no alternative to sending the Russian military to protect the Russian residents in eastern and southern Ukraine, Putin will send in enough troops to do the job quickly as he did in Georgia when the American and Israeli trained Georgian army invaded South Ossetia and was destroyed in a few hours by the Russian response. If you hear that 100,000 Russian troops accompanied by air cover have invaded Ukraine, it would be a more believable claim.

Russia Invades Ukraine, ISIS Update, Israel-Hamas Cease Fire and More!

The following video was published by Greg Hunter on Aug 28, 2014
I have been predicting wider war in Ukraine, and now we have one with the Russian invasion of Eastern Ukraine. The President said in a press conference that there is not going to be a military response to this escalation, but my sources say the U. S. has been covertly helping the Ukrainians. How do you think they have been able to overtake the pro-Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine? Looks like Vladimir Putin has had enough and is now directly involved with his military.
Meanwhile, in the Middle East, everyone is talking about ISIS or ISIL or, simply, the Islamic State. The Islamic State has taken over large parts of Iraq and Syria. Now, the Islamic State is threatening the Golan Heights on the Northern Israeli border. The President said in a press conference he ‘did not have a strategy’ for dealing with the Islamic State. What??? This after the Secretary of Defense and the head of the Joint Chiefs gave a press conference that said the Islamic State was an ‘imminent threat’ and that IS was ‘not like anything we have seen.’
The Israelis and Hamas have agreed to another cease-fire. The Israelis wanted Hamas to disarm before they opened the borders of Gaza and extended fishing off the coast. The new cease-fire allows the borders to be open for humanitarian aid and construction material to rebuild Gaza. Hamas did not agree to disarm. So, why did the Israelis cave in? I think that the military wing of Hamas has been damaged so badly that it is now much less of a threat. Israel sees wider war coming and wants Washington to resupply it with offensive weapons such as Sidewinder missiles that the Obama Administration stopped recently.

Donetsk & the Prisoner Parade

The political manipulations in Ukraine are fascinating and cruel. We have seen a very shameful display of politics in Donetsk with the ‘parade’ of prisoners which was intended to make Ukraine so angry they would want Donetsk to leave for no Ukrainian would want to live with such hatred. The aim is to stir up hatred towards Donetsk residents is a typical move of a region that is inferior and cannot win by sheer force.
The end goal is to separate Donetsk willingly. They want to inspire hatred for this will serve the goal of separation. This strategy is not uncommon in this region. However, inspiring such hatred creates long-term separation that never fades away and will last centuries. We have this between Israel and Palestine. It is really impossible to get long-term peace because there is underlying dislike of each other no matter what the enlightened ones may say.

Russia Sanctions Hit German Consumers, ‘Economic Expectations Completely Collapse’

It starts out un-alarmingly. The optimism of German consumers weakens somewhat, according to the forward-looking Gfk survey, conducted on a monthly basis for the European Commission. So the overall index fell to 8.6 for September, from 8.9 in August. It was the first decline since January 2013.
The index bottomed in late 2008 below 2, after a breathtaking crash during the financial crisis. In late 2007, it had hovered above 9. Early 2014 was the first time since the prior bubble that the index broke above 8. And August’s level of 8.9 represented an ‘extremely optimistic economic outlook,’ as Gfk calls it. German consumers have been feeling good, and according to the headline index, they’re stillfeeling good up there somewhere in the rarefied air above 8.
But beneath the surface, there is serious trouble. Gfk reports that the sub-index of economic expectations, ‘in light of the intensified state of international affairs, completely collapses.’
It plunged 35.5 points to 10.4. The worst monthly plunge since the beginning of the survey in 1980. In a single month, it nearly wiped out all the gains of the boom of the last 12 months. Gfk cites the escalation of the situation in Iraq, Israel, the Eastern Ukraine, and particularly ‘the faster rotating sanctions spiral with Russia.’
