I warned everybody about this in several posts last week. How some of the worst cretins rummaging around the carcass of American freedom and democracy instantaneously began salivating ferociously at the opportunity to look heroic by coming out in opposition to a grossly exaggerated Nazi threat hyped up by the corporate media. The events in Charlottesville presented such a tremendous opportunity for sleazy people in power to preposterously frame themselves as ‘speaking truth to power,’ I knew they’d milk it for all it’s worth. Days later, and they’re still doing it.
Of course, the ‘journalists’ of corporate media, i.e., public relations stenographers for billionaires, are doing everything they can to push this ridiculous narrative. Unsurprisingly, The New York Times has helped lead the charge, with David Gelles penning an article on Saturday that has to be one of the most revolting pieces of shameless propaganda ever composed in the english language.

Randall and Vicki Weaver and their children wanted nothing more than to be left to live an isolated life in peace in their cabin enclave on a northern Idaho mountaintop called Ruby Ridge. Untrusting of the federal government and of the belief society had taken an insurmountable turn for the worse, the Weavers – as many residents in the remote and breathtaking area – taught their children to be self-sufficient and defend themselves with firearms from unwanted intrusions onto the family’s property.
But the Weaver’s seemingly idyllic life came to an appallingly violent end over several hours from August 21 to 22, 1992, in a horrendously botched federal raid that would also profoundly alter perceptions about the U. S. government in the minds of even ordinary Americans.
Often afterward reported to be white supremacists, the Weavers considered themselves race ‘separatists’ only – and intended no harm against others beyond that belief – though their stance often included the company of people with a more vehement ideology.
Regardless of the Weavers’ beliefs, the account of what federal agents perpetrated against the family under the premise of affecting law enforcement action implores Americans of every race to consider the telling outcome of untrammeled government power run amok.

‘Is The President Mentally And Emotionally Stable?’ New Bill Would Require Trump To Undergo Mental Health Evaluation
Back in February it was reported by Zero Hedge that Democrats would soon act to remove President Trump under the 25th Amendment, which states in part that a President can be replaced should he be unable to discharge his powers and duties. Such an action would require a vote from the President’s cabinet, but could also be initiated by Congress.
As of today, Trump’s opponents are now actively pursuing this strategy. Asking whether the President has early stage dementia, or whether he is ‘mentally and emotionally stable,’ Congressional Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) introduced legislation that would force the President to submit to a psychological evaluation.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) introduced the bill on Friday. Should the results of the said exam be unfavorable, the bill calls for Vice President Mike Pence and members of the Cabinet to remove Trump from office.
The move would invoke the 25th Amendment, a rarely-used constitutional provision that allows the vice president and a majority of Cabinet members to jointly remove the president from office and replace him with the vice president.

Update 2 from Reuters: SPANISH POLICE CONFIRMS MAIN BARCELONA ATTACK SUSPECT HAS BEEN SHOT DEAD
Spanish Police have confirmed they have shot dead Younes Abouyaaqoub, the suspected driver in the terrorist attack on Las Ramblas in Barcelona Thursday in an operation at Subirats, just outside the city. A bomb disposal unit has deploying a robot at the scene to inspect the suspicious device and the suspect’s remains, police indicated. Local reports claim that police helicopters are searching the area for a suspected accomplice.
Meanwhile, according to local press, authorities have asked people in the area not to broadcast the location of checkpoints as the security operation is ongoing.

Update: Reuters reporst that according to Spanish police, they had “shot down” a person on Monday who appeared to be wearing an explosive belt and Spanish public television said the man was the suspected perpetrator of last week’s Barcelona van attack. Catalan police declined to say if the man, shot in the area of Subirats, west of Barcelona, was dead or wounded.

Elon Musk is leading 116 ‘experts’ around the globe to petition the United Nations for an all out ban on killer robots. Musk, along with others like Alphabet’s Mustafa Suleyman, demand the ban to prevent a third ‘age of war.’
Musk has been outspoken about the dangers of artificial intelligence and robotics for years, and now his fear is leading to him to demand that killer robots be banned. Specialists from 26 countries around the globe have joined Musk and Suleyman in calling for the ban on autonomous weapons.
The United Nations is scheduled to vote on the ban on these weapons as well.

The pro-government constitutional assembly loyal to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro seized the powers of the opposition-led congress today, in a move that necessarily has Big Oil nervous that Trump will make good on his economic sanctions threat.
Maduro’s bold political move on Friday means further intensifies the dramatic decline of democracythat led Trump last week to threaten economic sanctions that could remove Venezuelan oil from the U. S. refining market.
It also comes right after Trump indicated that a ‘military option’ was not off the table.
The government has accused opposition leaders of conspiring with Washington to overthrow Maduro.

US Navy Halts Pacific Fleet Operations As Historical Path Of Collided Warship Emerges
Following the second collision of US warships in two months, the US Navy’s Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) has calling for a comprehensive review of recent incidents in the Pacific in the wake of the USS John McCain collision with an oil tanker early Monday morning. In a video, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson called for an “operational pause” with commands and leaders across the fleet, and a deeper look into the training and certification of forces operating in the Navy’s 7th Fleet – those in and around Japan.
“I have directed fleet commanders to immediately conduct an operational pause with commands and leaders across the fleet, to ensure we are taking all appropriate immediate measures to enhance the Navy’s safe and effective operation around the world…. This is the second major collision in the last three months, and is the latest in a series of major incidents, particularly in the Pacific theater,” said Richardson. “This trend demands more forceful action.”
