HACKER PROVES ANYONE CAN FIRE A LOCKED SMART GUN: HERE’S HOW

Those on the left end of the political spectrum are constantly attempting to push the ‘Smart Gun’ as if it’s some sort of magical device that will end all violence. It isn’t, of course, and you can easily fire any locked smart gun and it’ll only cost you $15.
Much to the chagrin of gun control activists everywhere, for the first time, a skilled hacker has taken a deep look into the security mechanismsof one leading example of a ‘smart gun.’ A smart gun is one of thoseauthenticated firearms, meaning only its owner may actually fire the weapon. The argument for the smart gun has been in the pockets of hoplophobes for years. But now, one hacker has found that if smart guns are going to become a reality, they’ll need to be much smarter than the one he hacked.

Ahead Of Senate Healthcare Vote, It’s Pure Chaos

This will be a very interesting day for HealthCare. The Dems are obstructionists but the Republicans can have a great victory for the people!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 25, 2017

The ongoing saga to repeal Obamacare continues, and with just hours left until a critical vote, the sheer chaos has never been greater.
On Monday, Trump remained defiant warning Senate Republicans that anyone who votes not to take up debate of the bill today is saying they are ‘fine with the Obamacare nightmare.’ Realistically, Republicans have been struggling to find a replacement plan that can attract >50 votes in the Senate, even though the party has a 52-48 majority. Nonetheless, Senator Cornyn appears to be fighting to the end, noting yesterday that ‘if for some reason we aren’t able to muster the votes tomorrow…it’s not the end of it….’
Still, in what Bloomberg described as an ‘uncharacteristic gamble’ for Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Senate GOP Leadership, the Senate is set to hold a crucial procedural vote to open debate on the Republican plan to undo ObamaCare without knowing A) which plan they will be voting for B) if the vote will pass. But by insisting on a vote, Trump and the leadership are playing a game of political chicken, forcing lawmakers to either publicly proclaim their opposition to the president, incurring the wrath of his supporters and maybe even a primary challenge, or show their support.

Politics of the Next 4 Years – Part 2 (Last Chance for the Democrats)

Obama campaigned for president promising to "bring a new era of responsibility & accountability to Wall Street.’ Then he prosecuted nobody.
— David Sirota (@davidsirota) July 24, 2017

In yesterday’s post, Politics of the Next 4 Years – Part 1 (Rise of the ‘Dirtbag Left’), I discussed the fact that a very potent grassroots movement has emerged to the left of corporate, neoliberal Democrats. This self-described ‘Dirtbag Left’ and its allies have the potential to not just drive the Democratic Party into extinction, but also ultimately challenge Trump on the national stage. Although I’m not a Democrat or a leftist (I’m not a Republican or conservative either), I welcome this development for a number of reasons.
First, if economic populism becomes aggressively embraced by those who lean left, it will force Trump to become genuinely populist on at least some issues in order to compete in 2020, as opposed to the fake populism he has enthusiastically embraced since the election. Second, it will present corporate Democrats with a choice, either ‘bend the knee’ as the folks at Chapo suggested, or die. Nobody believes in neoliberal ideology other than donors and their corporate media spokespeople. The entire thing is a discredited failure and isn’t coming back. As such, today’s post will explain why this is the last chance for the Democratic Party.
The political world was abuzz yesterday with chatter related to Charles ‘Chucky’ Schumer’s op-ed in The New York Times in which he suddenly proclaims himself an economic populist, and disingenuously claims the Democratic Party has somehow changed. It consisted of many comforting phrases, but I wouldn’t believe a single line of it until I see actual action on the ground. It’s easy to talk a big game when you have zero power, but talk is cheap, as we all should have learned from both Barrack Obama and Donald Trump.

China Adds Troops To India Border, Will Defend Sovereignty At “Whatever Cost”

With attention focused on geopolitical tensions involving North Korea, the world may have missed that another, potentially more troubling conflict is brewing on the border between India and China, where as we reported over the weekend, China threatened with military action after a “blatant sovereignty infringement.” Since then tensions have grown, and on Monday China warned on Monday that it will step up its troop deployment in a border dispute with India, vowing to defend its sovereignty at “whatever cost”.
The latest standoff started more than a month ago after Chinese troops started building a road on a remote plateau, which is disputed by China and Bhutan. Indian troops countered by moving to the flashpoint zone to halt the work, with China accusing them of violating its territorial sovereignty and calling for their immediate withdrawal.
“The crossing of the mutually recognised national borders on the part of India… is a serious violation of China’s territory and runs against the international law,” Chinese defence ministry spokesman Wu Qian told a press conference quoted by AFP, adding that “the determination and the willingness and the resolve of China to defend its sovereignty is indomitable, and it will safeguard its sovereignty and security interests at whatever cost.”

College: Investment in the American Dream or an Escape From Reality?

These days it seems college is about everything buthigher learning.
Undergraduates enrolled in a Global Politics of Human Rights course at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus, for example, were allowed to stage a protest for their final assignment. ‘The focus,’ according to the initial report by the Arizona Republic, ‘was opposition to many of President Donald Trump’s policies, with deportations and a call for a new border wall the major focuses.’
Listen to Rob Franek on Colleges That Pay You Back
The students were ‘shocked’ by what the Republic dubbed in a follow-up story the ‘social media mob’ that ensued. ‘They didn’t understand why everyone was so angry,’ said course instructor Angeles Maldonado.
But ASU is hardly an isolated incident.
Students at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, turned on biology professor Bret Weinstein for, as he explained to the Wall Street Journal, objecting to ‘a planned ‘Day of Absence’ in which white people were asked to leave campus,’ a practice Weinstein considers ‘coercive segregation by race.’ The student harassment became so severe he was advised by campus police to stay home for his own safety.
